On April 9-10, 2005, the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Marvin Wachman Fund for International Education held its 13th History Institute for Teachers, focusing on “Understanding the Koreas.” Specially designed for secondary school teachers and curriculum supervisors, the program featured a series of lectures by leading scholars in several fields. Forty teachers from 17 states attended the weekend conference.

Don Oberdorfer is Distinguished Journalist in Residence and Adjunct Professor of International Relations at Johns Hopkins University’s Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. Previously, he was a journalist for 38 years, including 25 years at the Washington Post. His books include The Two Koreas: A Contemporary History (updated edition by Basic Books, 2001).
